Success is Evolving

Hey There,

About two years ago I created the Blind Cat Design Studio and opened my Etsy shop. With graphic design as my background, the first thing I did was design a logo. The name of my business was inspired by my two cats, Holmes and Watson. When they were just little kittens they had a disease that left Holmes with one eye and Watson totally blind. They are all better now, going on 5 years old, and still getting into trouble.

As the inspiration for the business name, I figured they should also inspire the logo. My interpretation developed into cartoon cats, one wearing a monocle and the other glasses. I really like this logo, but as I began to delve into pattern design, I started to get the feeling that the things I was creating didn’t match the brand I had already established. So, I decided to make the Blind Cat Design Studio brand a little more mature.

I took a photo of Holmes and Watson sitting at my back door listening to the squirrels play around outside one summer. I really loved how sweet this photo was and decided to make it the inspiration for the new logo. Two blind cats sitting together. I kept the layout of the text from the original logo but updated the font. I also moved from black and white to a deep dark blue and a light cream color.

I also thought about the fact that I’m trying to establish myself as a pattern designer and I decided to create a brand pattern. Why not? It’s full of curling flowers with illustrations of cats mixed in throughout. Just think of how great it will be to use this pattern as a background on my website or on packaging for products.

Success is evolving is the title of this article because all businesses big or small must evolve to be successful. Will my brand change cause me great success, probably not, but it is a start.  The evolution of a business doesn’t need to be a brand change, consider selling a new product or changing up your social media posts. Even small evolutions lead to big things.
